LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- A cross-country trip did nothing to slow Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils.

Brodeur grabbed a share of the league lead with his fourth shutout of the season as the Devils extended their unbeaten streak to 12 games with a 4-0 blanking of the Los Angeles Kings.

In the opener of a four-game western road trip, Brodeur made 25 saves for his 68th career shutout, which is tops among active goaltenders. He helped New Jersey remain the NHL's lone unbeaten road team at 5-0-2.

"We're taking it step by step and game by game," Brodeur said. "We have some new guys who have to learn how to play with us. Right now, we're facing teams that we're able to handle pretty good. We're winning in different ways, scoring a lot of goals and shutting teams down."

John Madden and Patrik Elias each had a goal and an assist and Sergei Brylin and defenseman Scott Niedermayer also scored for the Devils, whose 10-0-2 stretch is one short of the team record for longest without a loss.

"We're on a streak now, but we knew we were good at the beginning of the season when things didn't go our way," Niedermayer said. "You don't win the Stanley Cup and a few months later, you're no good."

Cristobal Huet stopped 19 shots, but Los Angeles fell to 2-5-1 in its last eight home games.

"We played a very good hockey team and things didn't go our way," Kings coach Andy Murray said. "We looked up with nine minutes to go in the first period and they had only one shot on net. They didn't give us much, but I don't think we gave them much, either."

The Kings were without leading scorer Ziggy Palffy, who suffered facial injuries in Saturday's win at Colorado.

During a power play with 1:57 to go in the first period, Madden beat Huet with a slap shot from the top of the right faceoff circle.

Turner Stevenson made a great move to get past Jon Sim along the right boards, then centered for Brylin, whose tap-in made it 2-0 just 22 seconds into the second. Niedermayer put in a rebound during another power play in the final minute of the period.

Trailing, 3-0, Murray made the unorthodox move of pulling Huet for an extra attacker with 5 1/2 minutes left in the third. It backfired when Elias scored into the empty net with 3:43 to play.

"It's my job as coach to show we're not going to quit and try to get back in the game," Murray said. "We're not going to get three goals in the last two minutes, so when we got to five, six minutes left, we were looking to pull him."
