CALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) -- Martin Gelinas left the Montreal Canadiens out in the cold on the eve of their much-anticipated outdoor game.

Gelinas scored with 74 seconds remaining to give the Calgary Flames a 2-1 victory over the Canadiens.

It was the first goal since October 28 for Gelinas, a Quebec native who missed the previous two games with a concussion and an ankle injury.

"We lost on a very tough screen shot and a rebound," said Canadiens goaltender Jose Theodore, who made 30 saves. "It's really frustrating, but ... they outworked us and that was the key."

Off a faceoff in the Montreal zone, Craig Conroy drew the puck back to defenseman Jordan Leopold, who fired a slap shot from the point. The rebound bounced out to Gelinas, who put it home for the game-winner.

Conroy beat Saku Koivu on the draw, and Montreal coach Claude Julien took responsibility for not giving his team the best chance to win.

"Saku is a guy who can win important faceoffs for us," Julien said. "As a coach, you have to have the best faceoff man on your team, and that's Yanic Perreault. I didn't do that."

Perreault was the only Canadien to win more than half of his faceoffs, going 7-for-12. Koivu was 9-for-21.

Calgary's other goal also was a late-period strike as Steven Reinprecht forged a 1-1 tie with 53 seconds left in the first. Reinprecht has scored in back-to-back games after tallying twice in his first 12 contests this season.

Miikka Kiprusoff made 22 saves to get the win in his Flames' debut. Acquired Sunday from San Jose, the 27-year-old Finn yielded only a power-play goal to defenseman Craig Rivet at 15:02 of the opening period.

"I was jumping a little bit more than I usually do, but when the game (was) going and going, I felt much better on the puck," Kiprusoff said.

It was Kiprusoff's first game since March 20 and his first win since March 6, when he also beat the Canadiens.
