Washington Capitals topped by Boston Bruins 2-3 Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003 Preview | Boxscore BOSTON (Ticker) -- Everything is rolling the right way for Martin Lapointe and the Boston Bruins, especially the puck. Lapointe's power-play goal with 8:23 left in the third period turned out to be the game-winner as the Bruins edged the Washington Capitals, 3-2, for their fifth win in six games. In front of the net, Lapointe took a pass from rookie Patrice Bergeron and tried to knock it home. He put the puck directly into Olaf Kolzig's pads, but it bounced up and over the goaltender to give Boston a 3-1 lead. "You're going to have your ups and downs over the course of the season," said Boston right wing Mike Knuble, who had a goal and an assist. "We've been lucky not to have any poor times as of yet." Defenseman Sergei Gonchar struck back with six minutes left to get the Capitals within a goal, but it was not enough as Washington failed in a bid for its first winning streak of the season. Gonchar's goal came on one of the Capitals' three shots in the third period. "All the games we're losing are by one goal," said Jaromir Jagr, who scored Washington's other goal. "We're not one of those teams that can play poorly and still win." Four of the Caps' last six losses have been by a single goal. They lost this game, despite getting 22 saves from Kolzig. Jagr got Washington on the board in the second period off a pass from Kip Miller. Glen Murray scored his fourth goal in as many games. His seventh of the season gave the Bruins a 2-0 lead with 6:59 left in the opening period. "We wanted a good start," Bruins coach Mike Sullivan said. "Getting up by two goals was encouraging." Rookie Andrew Raycroft made 20 saves for his fourth straight win.
