DENVER (Ticker) -- The Colorado Avalanche are rolling and, making matters worse for future opponents, Teemu Selanne is getting on track.

Selanne scored with 1:49 left in overtime as the Avalanche continued their strong play by edging the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, 2-1.

The former Duck scored for the third time in four games, taking advantage of a heady play by Rob Blake. As the Colorado defenseman sliced between the circles, he drew the defense and threaded a pass to Selanne, who switched to his forehand before roofing the puck for his fifth goal of the season.

"Blake got the puck and I just tried to get open," Selanne said. "When you play with so many great players like Rob Blake, you know that they will get you the puck."

"(Selanne) is a great player," Blake said. "That's exactly the reason we have him. He's got two in the last two games, and you can see it turning for him. We're fortunate to have that."

Defenseman Adam Foote had the other goal for Colorado, which is 6-0-1-1 in its last eight contests.

Vaclav Prospal took advantage of a turnover by Karlis Skrastins deep in his own zone to score the lone goal for Anaheim, which had a three-game winning streak snapped. The Ducks have picked up points in six straight games, going 3-0-0-3 over that span.

"I thought tonight we came out and watched them a little bit instead of coming out and getting after them," Anaheim coach Mike Babcock said. "You can't start worrying about the other team. You've got to come out and play your game and play the way you're supposed to."

The game was expected to be Paul Kariya's first against the team he spent his first nine seasons with. But the star left winger missed the contest after re-injuring his wrist in Saturday's win over the Dallas Stars.

Kariya and Selanne are first and second on Anaheim's all-time list in goals, assists, points, shots, power-play and game-winning goals.

"There's still a lot of my friends there, so it's feels good," Selanne said. "There's a lot of things you think about when playing your ex-team. You feel a little emotional. I just try to think of it like a normal game. Go out there and try to play well and help the team get two points."

Jean-Sebastien Giguere had 38 saves for Anaheim.

"I felt pretty good with my game," Giguere said. "It's too bad we didn't win, we worked pretty hard and that's the way it went."

"(Giguere) played really well," Prospal said. "There were times when he kept us in the game. They had a lot more shots than we did. It was one of those games where we were relying on him. To get the loss in his stats was bad on our part."

Colorado's David Aebischer had his shutout streak snapped at 129 minutes, 32 seconds.

The teams combined for 20 shots in each of the first two periods before Foote got Colorado on the board with 5:39 left in regulation.

Prospal's fourth goal of the season just 86 seconds later knotted the contest. It was Prospal's first goal in six games.

The Avalanche, who are 21-9-7-2 all-time against the Ducks, are 3-1-1 in overtime this season. Anaheim is 2-4-1 in the extra session.
