COLUMBUS, Ohio (Ticker) -- Andrew Cassels scored with 42 seconds left in the third period to lift the Columbus Blue Jackets into a 2-2 tie with the Phoenix Coyotes, who went to overtime for the fifth straight game.

Columbus goaltender Marc Denis had not yet reached the bench for an extra attacker when Cassels broke down the slot, got a pass from Geoff Sanderson and wristed a shot between the pads of goalie Sean Burke for his second goal of the season.

"Sandy made a good rush, he skated hard from our zone off the faceoff and it seemed they were more focused on him, and it was a pretty fortunate bounce to come right to me," Cassels said. "I basically had a short breakaway against Burke and I wanted until there was a little room between his pads."

Cassels also set up Rick Nash's power-play tally in the second period as the Blue Jackets erased a two-goal deficit. But they could not end a winless streak that reached four games (0-2-2).

"I don't know what the franchise record is, but late goals like that, we have not scored many, and it was good to see that bounce," Columbus coach Doug MacLean said. "It was exceptionally nice to see Cassels get it on a feed from Sanderson."

Daymond Langkow had a goal and an assist for Phoenix, which took all four shots in the extra period and has just one loss during its overtime streak (2-1-2).

"We just have to learn that when we have a team down, we gotta put them down," Langkow said. "We played well in the first and then we just played like we had the game won and we let up."

"We walked out of Dallas happy with that point, but tonight, this feels like a loss to us," added Burke, who made 25 saves.

The Blue Jackets had lost all five games this season when trailing after two periods, but Marc Denis turned aside all 19 shots after the first period and finished with 29 saves.

"I thought we bounced back really well," Denis said. "We battled back and kept plugging away 'til the end. It would have been very frustrating to give up these two points."

Red-hot Ladislav Nagy gave Phoenix a 1-0 lead just 3:20 into the first period with a power-play goal, his 10th of the season and fifth in the last four games. Langkow doubled the lead 9 1/2 minutes later, but Rick Nash started Columbus' comeback early in the second with a power-play tally.
