ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- Petr Sykora couldn't beat Sean Burke in regulation, but he ended the overtime woes of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.

With 1:17 left in the extra session, Sykora took a pass from Sandis Ozolinsh at the left faceoff dot and blasted the puck past Burke to give the Ducks a 2-1 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes.

"I had a lot of chances," Sykora said. "I scored one goal tonight, but I had a whole lot of scoring chances. Obviously for us, we need to score more goals."

The winning tally came on Sykora's ninth shot of the night. Near the end of the third period, Burke was able to get his glove on a similar shot from the same spot, but Sykora perfectly targeted the upper right corner of the net with his overtime blast.

"It was a good shot," Burke said. "I was pretty patient with him, but he beat me right were the two posts joined together. They were really flying tonight. We knew they wanted to come back from last night and they played like it."

The Ducks got revenge for their 4-3 overtime loss at Phoenix on Saturday night, and snapped a four-game losing streak.

"(Our record) looks bad, but it could be worse," Anaheim goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere said. "I think we have to work with the positives and there is positive to work with. We have to try to turn the corner and really move ahead in the conference."

The Ducks are 5-7-1-3, while Giguere is just 2-8-0 after leading the Ducks to the Stanley Cup Finals last season.

"That was real good for him," Ducks coach Mike Babcock said. "A good thing about Jiggy is that when he leaves the rink, he leaves the game here."

Burke was playing in relief of Zac Bierk, who left with a hip flexor injury in the second period. Bierk made 16 saves, while Burke stopped 27 shots.

"I tweaked it on a kick save," Bierk said. "I don't know who it was against. I felt it right after that. I knew I couldn't go."

Steve Rucchin also scored for the Ducks, collecting his third goal in two games with a shorthanded tally late in the first period. Rucchin scored from a difficult angle, shooting along the goal line and bouncing the puck off Bierk's body and into the net to make it 1-0.

"We let them play too much in our own end," Phoenix coach Bob Francis said. "Three games in four nights has been tough, but I thought our guys were great tonight and both our goalies gave us a chance to win."

Phoenix tied the game with 1:26 left in the second on Ladislav Nagy's eighth goal of the season, a shot from the top of the right circle. Giguere, who made 27 saves, was unbale to see the puck on Nagy's shot as he was screened by his own defenseman, Niclas Havelid.
