PHOENIX (Ticker) -- After learning they will be without one of their top scorers for up to four months, the Phoenix Coyotes recorded their first win in 3 1/2 weeks.

Defenseman Radoslav Suchy scored 80 seconds into overtime to give the Coyotes a 4-3 triumph over the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, snapping a nine-game winless streak.

After opening the season with three wins, the Coyotes went 0-6-3 in the next nine contests, their longest drought since a 10-game skid in 1997-98. But after tying this one late in the second period on Ladislav Nagy's second goal of the game, Phoenix came on strong in overtime.

Shane Doan entered the Anaheim zone and blasted a shot wide of the net. The puck bounced off the end boards to Suchy, who got a stick on it at the bottom of the right faceoff circle.

The puck bounced over the right shoulder of goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere and off the left goalpost before dropping into the net, giving Phoenix its first win since October 15 and second this season over the Ducks.

"It was just a lucky bounce," said Suchy, who also scored the game-winner in Phoenix's last victory. "Doan had the shot and I knew there was going to be a rebound and I just went for it. It came right to me and the puck was bouncing and it was a lucky bounce. It went over his shoulder and right in."

"The boards are pretty lively here," Giguere said. "It just bounced back and the guy seemed to miss his shot, but it hit my shoulder and just trickled in. A lucky bounce, but when you work hard like that for 60 minutes, you get things going your way."

The goal was Suchy's fourth of the season, matching a career high, and first at home.

"He has an uncanny knack of knowing when to jump (into the play) and when not to," Phoenix coach Bob Francis said. "He is a very smart hockey player."

Doan scored a goal and set up two others, while Nagy added an assist.

"It has been a little bit frustrating, but we played hard," Nagy said. "We have to play hard every night."

Coyotes right wing Mike Johnson, who led the team in scoring last season, will have shoulder surgery Tuesday and is expected to miss three to four months.

Steve Rucchin scored twice for Anaheim, which has lost four in a row.

"They had a couple of chances before they scored in OT," Ducks coach Mike Babcock said. "Now they have the monkey off their back and now we have to establish ourselves."

The Ducks grabbed a 1-0 lead 94 seconds into the contest on Rob Niedermayer's slap shot from just above the right faceoff circle. But with the Coyotes on a 5-on-3 power play, Doan unleashed a slapper from the top of the slot that got by Giguere at 4:02, evening the game.

Nagy put the Coyotes ahead less than three minutes later when he backhanded the rebound of Branko Radivojevic's shot past Giguere for his sixth goal. But Rucchin netted a pair of power-play goals to give the Ducks a 3-2 edge.

With 5:33 to go in the first, rookie Joffrey Lupul tapped the rebound of defenseman Niclas Havelid's point shot across the slot. Stationed on the right side, Rucchin knocked it past goalie Sean Burke for his fourth goal.

While Chris Gratton was serving a slashing penalty, Rucchin redirected Havelid's right point shot at 7:22 of the second, giving Anaheim its second lead of the game.

Giguere stopped Daniel Cleary on a breakaway with 4:48 left in the period, but Nagy converted a feed from Daymond Langkow after a turnover in the Anaheim zone at 18:40 to pull Phoenix even.

"He kind of fanned on his shot a bit, but I was nowhere to be found on that one," Giguere said.

"That is a huge game for us. It was really important," Nagy said. "It is a huge two points. We all worked hard tonight. We deserved this win."

Gratton had a chance to put Phoenix ahead with 12 minutes to go in the third, but his shot from the slot sailed over a wide-open net.
