NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Tony Amonte scored early in the third period and set up defenseman Marcus Ragnarsson's goal 61 seconds into overtime as the Philadelphia Flyers rallied for a 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers.

Amonte, who spent parts of four seasons with the Rangers, extended his points streak to eight games with a power-play goal 49 seconds into the third. He fired a loose puck past goaltender Mike Dunham for his fourth goal in as many games and sixth this season.

"This has been a nice run," Amonte said. "We had the opportunity to get that one in overtime. I thought I was going to score on that 2-on-1, but Boris Mironov got just enough of it to slow it down and give Dunham enough time to get across the crease."

Moments before the game-winner, Amonte hit Dunham in the facemask off an odd-man rush.

Ragnarsson was unchecked at the top of the crease when he got a feed from Amonte and fired a one-timer for his second goal of the season.

"If I attack the post, he'll find me," Ragnarsson said. "It went in, it was as simple as that. I've had a few game-winners, but this is my first in overtime."

"They had a 2-on-1, Tony hit me in the mask on the shot and they got it behind the net," said Dunham, who has not allowed more than three goals in any of his last nine outings. "Tony centered it real quick and the guy one-timed. I came across and as I came down the puck was in the net already. A quick bang-bang play around the net."

The Rangers took the lead with 6:11 to go in the opening period. Defenseman Vladimir Malakhov fired a slap shot from the top of the left faceoff circle past Jeff Hackett for his first goal of the season.

"We all knew he didn't have to say much (after the first period)," Hackett said, referring to Flyers coach Ken Hitchcock. "We knew that we didn't have our best effort. Once we got out of the first period, I thought we played an excellent game."

Jeremy Roenick extended his points streak to five games with an assist on Amonte's equalizer.

Former Flyers captain Eric Lindros returned after missing seven games with a left shoulder sprain. He missed a point-blank shot with a minute to go in regulation.

"I thought that for 80 percent of the game we played decent," said Lindros, who collected his first assist of the season. "There were some letdowns and we were running around a little bit in our zone. We got away from being physical and finishing our checking in slowing things down."

Philadelphia has won five of its last six games.

"We were fortunate to come out of the first period down only 1-0," Amonte said. "They had chances to blow the game open. Hackett did a great job of holding us in the game and keeping it a one-goal game."
