CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Ed Olczyk can thank his goaltending phenom for a successful return home.

Marc-Andre Fleury recorded his first career shutout and fellow rookie Konstantin Koltsov scored his first NHL goal as the Pittsburgh Penguins posted a 1-0 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks, who had a five-game unbeaten streak snapped.

Olczyk is in his first year as coach after a 16-year playing career that included two stints with the Blackhawks. He spent his first three seasons (1984-87) and final two (1998-2000) in Chicago.

"I'm sure it was the first game that he circled on his calendar this last summer," Pittsburgh captain Mario Lemieux said. "I thought the guys played hard for him tonight."

"This being home and coming back here where I started my career and ended my playing career, it's a special feeling," Olczyk said. "I was taught at a very young age, you never forget where you came from. Everything I have I owe to the game of hockey and the Blackhawks for giving me an opportunity."

The 36-year-old Olczyk returned to the United Center and got a superb performance from Fleury.

The top overall pick in the 2003 draft, Fleury has been solid early in the season, but was flawless in this one. He made 20 saves, including a number of spectacular stops, in the third period to preserve the lead.

"I tried not to think about (the shutout), but I have to admit that I was," he said. "I was crossing my fingers and I was glad that nothing went by."

"We had a half-dozen shots that were from great scoring areas," Chicago coach Brian Sutter said. "A couple of times we had (Fleury) down and out and just couldn't put the puck away."

Koltsov, Pittsburgh's first-round pick in 1999, put the Penguins in front 4:21 into the second period when he beat Michael Leighton with a backhanded shot from the left faceoff circle.

"He made a nice play to kind of flip the puck over and get it under control when it was fluttering," Leighton said. "He just got it up over my pad."

Koltsov was just 3 years old when Olczyk debuted with the Blackhawks. The 19-year-old Fleury wasn't even born.

"When you have a lot of young guys, you're going to have a lot of firsts," Lemieux said. "Some of our young guys are coming on strong."

Pittsburgh focused on defense following the goal, registering only one shot in the final period. It held on to snap a four-game winless skid with its second victory in nine games this season.

"They kind of stopped coming after us and just tried to hold on," Chicago right wing Steve Sullivan said. "Normally, that kills you, but they made some good plays and Fleury made some big plays. We did not test them enough."

Fleury played on back-to-back nights for the first time this season. He faced an average of 38.2 shots in his first five starts but was challenged with nearly half as many in this one.

"You still have to stay focused, especially when you're watching," he said. "Sometimes when you have more shots, it's easier to stay in the game."

The Penguins had allowed more than 37 shots per game in the first eight games but limited the Blackhawks to just 20.

Leighton also played well, stopping 18 shots in a rare opportunity. Playing for Jocelyn Thibault, Leighton's best moment came early in the third period as he turned away Ryan Malone on a breakaway.

"I had to (stop the breakaway) because I think that was the only shot that I faced in the third period," Leighton said. "It is the kind of save I had to make in order for us to have a chance to come back."

Chicago had numerous chances to tie the game in the final four minutes but continually was denied by Fleury.
