DALLAS (Ticker) -- Dallas Stars coach Dave Tippett isn't thrilled with the method, but he'll take the results.

Jason Arnott scored 17 seconds into overtime after Bill Guerin recorded his fourth career hat trick as the Dallas Stars stormed back from a two-goal deficit and posted a 4-3 victory over the Calgary Flames.

Rookie goaltender Dany Sabourin stopped Brenden Morrow's redirection from the left side but could not control the puck. Arnott skated across the crease and poked the puck into the net for his third goal of the season.

"I didn't know if he was going to get it because it was bouncing," Arnott said. "It just popped out and there was an opening on the side for me."

A veteran of six minor league seasons, Sabourin stopped 19 of 20 shots over the first two periods in his NHL debut and took a 3-1 lead into the third. But Flames defenseman Jordan Leopold was penalized for holding with 10:55 remaining, and Guerin needed just 22 seconds to cut into the deficit.

"I felt good in the net," Sabourin said. "I made a great stop before the second goal and I was hoping that would carry us through. It just didn't."

Guerin slugged defenseman Denis Gauthier immediately after the goal and drew a roughing minor. But he came out of the penalty box, got a cross-ice pass from Arnott and snapped a shot from the top of the left faceoff circle under Sabourin's right arm.

"I didn't know he was there, but the guys on the bench were screaming at me, so I turned around and he was there," explained Arnott, who also set up Guerin's other two goals.

It was Guerin's sixth goal of the season and completed his first hat trick since February 4, 2002.

"You go through stretches where you can't buy one and then you go through stretches where they all go in," Guerin said. "I can't explain it."

Tippett gave it a shot.

"We were describing what a power forward is - skill and brawn. That's what we got out of Billy tonight," Tippett said. "He plays like a bull in a china shop, but he can play with finesse along with that."

The Stars improved to 2-3-0 when trailing after two periods and have come from behind in each of their last three wins.

"You wish you wouldn't be in that position," Tippett said. "We might have to win in an unorthodox way, but you might as well give it a shot. Coming back is not a way you have success. It can get you some points, but you don't want to thrive in that situation."

Jarome Iginla, Oleg Saprykin and Chuck Kobasew tallied for Calgary, which has not won in Dallas since December 14, 2001.

"It's certainly disappointing because of the 3-1 lead we gave up, but I honestly don't believe we blew it," Flames coach Darryl Sutter said. "I thought we gave it a (heck) of an effort after getting in here late last night."

Iginla opened the scoring eight minutes into the first period, but Guerin tied it just under seven minutes later. Allowed to dart out from behind the net, Guerin moved to the bottom of the right circle and put a backhander over Sabourin.

Calgary appeared to take control in the second period. Saprykin came out from behind the net and banked a tight-angle shot off goalie Marty Turco and into the net at the 95-second mark for his first goal since March 18.

Kobasew made it 3-1 at 6:19, stuffing a wraparound between the pads of Turco, who surrenderred three goals on 11 shots and was replaced by Ron Tugnutt.

"The second and third goals were just poor goals," Tippett said. "I'm not going to sugar-coat it. We've got to get him going."

"It was a good comeback, but I don't think we can keep putting ourselves in holes like that," said Tugnutt, who stopped all six shots he faced.
