UNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) -- Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils made quick work of the New York Islanders.

Brodeur stopped 25 shots for his 65th career shutout and linemates Jay Pandolfo and John Madden each had a goal and an assist as the Devils pulled away for a 4-0 blanking of the Islanders.

New Jersey needed barely two hours to extend its unbeaten streak against the Islanders to six games (5-0-1) as Brodeur defeated them for the 28th time, equaling former teammate John Vanbiesbrouck for most by a New York opponent.

"I like playing against teams like that a lot," Brodeur said. "The Islanders are a threat. It's a rival. We always think it's going to be a good game, especially when we come into this building. But we always bear down when we play rivals. It's more fun to play against them."

The Islanders had only a handful of scoring chances against Brodeur, who made a dazzling glove save to stop Shawn Bates on a breakaway just three minutes into the opening period and denied defenseman Kenny Jonsson from the slot with 13:44 to go in the second.

"Bates, he shot it at my glove. But with Jonsson, I really had to make a good save," Brodeur said. "He came in and faked to go on my glove side and then went on my blocker side. The same type of play happened against Tampa Bay, when (Vincent) Lecavalier scored on us."

Brodeur improved to 28-10-4 with five shutouts lifetime vs. New York.

The Devils had a 1-0 lead when Pandolfo slipped the puck under Rick DiPietro just 90 seconds into the second period after the goaltender stopped Jamie Langenbrunner on a breakaway and got a piece of Madden's rebound.

"Jamie had the breakaway, I just followed it up," Pandolfo said. "The puck was just kind of sitting there. I just tried to pull it and shoot it, and as I was shooting it, (Alexei) Yashin kind of slashed my stick and took the momentum off of my shot. But it dribbled over the line."

Brian Gionta made it 3-0 at 7:29 of the third period and Madden capped the scoring 16 seconds later.

DiPietro made 23 saves for the Islanders, who were trying to win their first four home games for the first time since the 1984-85 season.

"The last half of the game, we stopped skating and kind of watched them," New York defenseman Adrian Aucoin said. "No matter what system you play, if you stop skating, you are not going to have a chance."

Part of the reason, Aucoin noted, was the fact the Devils lulled the Islanders to sleep.

"They have a group of guys who have been together for a while and they kind of mesmerize you," the veteran defenseman said. "When you give a team like that a lead, you are going to have a hard time."

Friesen gave the Devils the lead with 2:33 to go in the first period. DiPietro's clearing attempt was intercepted at the left point by defenseman Colin White, who came off the bench and fired a one-timer at the net. DiPietro got a piece, but Friesen pushed the rebound under the goalie's outstretched right arm.

Gionta got his second goal of the season when he beat DiPietro with a blast from the top of the right faceoff circle. Moments later, Madden got a pass from Pandolfo at the left faceoff dot and snapped a shot by the goalie.

New Jersey improved to 3-0-1 on the road but is 0-3-1 at home.

"I'm not sure why," Devils captain Scott Stevens said. "We played pretty well at home, but we haven't scored a lot. ... It's just a matter of time. If we keep it going like we are playing right now, we'll be fine."
