VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- The beginning was familiar to the Vancouver Canucks, but the ending was something new.

Krystofer Kolanos scored with 74 seconds remaining in the third period as the Phoenix Coyotes earned a 3-3 tie with the Canucks, whose home winning streak came to an end.

The Canucks, who started the campaign with four straight wins at GM Place, scored first for the eighth time in as many games this season when Trevor Linden beat Sean Burke late in the first period.

Defenseman Ed Jovanovski gave Vancouver a 2-0 lead five minutes into the second, but the Coyotes answered with goals 87 seconds apart midway through the period.

Markus Naslund, who added an assist, snapped the tie just under nine minutes into the third for his first multi-point game of the season.

With Burke pulled for an extra attacker, Kolanos took a pass from Branko Radivojevic behind the Vancouver net and wrapped the puck around the left goalpost and behind Dan Cloutier to forge a 3-3 tie.

"Radivojevic had the puck, and in one motion I picked it up behind the net and I tried a wraparound inside the post," Kolanos said. "It went off a stick and into the net."

Burke made 28 saves for Phoenix, which had its winless streak reach five games (0-3-2).

"I hope it's a big confidence booster for us," Burke said. "We played a tough team tonight and we were a little tired, playing last night. But we found a way. That's a huge point for us."

Cloutier turned aside 18 shots for the Canucks, who moved to 2-0-2 in their last four.

"We made some mistakes that cost us the game," Cloutier said. "I thought when we were up 2-0, we had the game. Then we made a few mistakes that cost us a point."

Vancouver right wing Todd Bertuzzi, who collected an assist, was awarded a new four-year contract after the game.

From the right boards, Magnus Arvedson fired a shot that Burke stopped. The puck dropped to the ice and Linden swiped it in at 17:38 for a 1-0 lead.

Early in the second, Jovanovski rushed in from the right point and made a cross-slot pass to fellow defenseman Marek Malik. Jovanovski got back the puck and rifled it past Burke for his second goal of the season and a two-goal advantage.

Just 3 1/2 minutes later, Shane Doan scored his second goal in as many nights to draw Phoenix within 2-1.

Standing in front with his back to the net, Doan received a pass from Ladislav Nagy, spun to his left and tucked the puck around Cloutier for his fourth tally.

"Vancouver is one of the elite teams," Doan said. "They haven't lost at home, we're on the road, you could say it's a big point for us."

Moments later, defenseman Radoslav Suchy walked out of the right corner and made Jovanovski drop to his knees before wristing a shot past Cloutier, evening the contest.

"Vancouver is the ideal team to play against because they force us to do what we need to do to be successful," Phoenix coach Bob Francis said. "We were fortunate to come up with a point. It's nice to see, though, because the guys fought hard tonight."

With just under nine minutes remaining in the third, Naslund took a feed from Brendan Morrison and rushed down the slot. After deking Burke, the Vancouver captain backhanded the puck into the net to give the Canucks a 3-2 edge.

Morrison had nearly snapped the tie late in the second, putting a shot from the left side through the crease.

The Canucks failed to take advantage of their power-play opportunities, going 0-for-8.

"Our power play wasn't effective when it needed to be," Naslund said. "We had a lot of opportunities to put them away and just couldn't."
