NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Milan Hejduk scored two second-period goals and Peter Forsberg added a goal and two assists as the Colorado Avalanche held off the Nashville Predators for a 5-3 victory.

The Avalanche killed off four consecutive Nashville power plays in the first period before Teemu Selanne gave Colorado the lead at 16:47.

"The penalty killers did a really good job. As soon as we got out of penalty trouble, I thought we played pretty well," Colorado coach Tony Granato said.

"We didn't capitalize on our power plays," Nashville coach Barry Trotz said. "It was a big momentum swing when they scored that first goal."

After Selanne's tally Hejduk scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season in a 1:48 span early in the second.

Both of Hejduk's goals were scored from the inside half of the right faceoff circle. His first was a wrist shot over goaltender Tomas Vokoun's glove at 6:15, while the second came off a slap shot at 8:51.

Hejduk extended his points streak to three games, accumulating three goals and four assists.

"We've been playing better the last couple of games and creating some scoring chances," Hejduk said.

Scott Hartnell got Nashville on the board 48 seconds later, but Forsberg scored his fifth goal at 12:13 to give Colorado a 4-1 lead.

Forsberg drove from the left boards to the low slot, where he lifted a backhander high to Vokoun's stick side.

"I have to give credit to Milan and Alex (Tanguay), I didn't play that well tonight," Forsberg said.

"For the teams we have played, Peter Forsberg is by far the most dominant player we have faced," Trotz said.

Goals by Adam Hall and Scott Walker drew the Predators within 4-3 late in the third, but Steve Konowalchuk scored into an empty net with four seconds left for his first goal with the Avalanche, sealing the victory and handing the Predators their third straight loss.

Nashville defenseman Mark Eaton assisted on all three Predator goals, setting a career high for points in a game.

Nashville's Andreas Johansson collided with defenseman Rob Blake with 9:40 remaining in the opening period and left the game with a cut above the left eye.
