DALLAS (Ticker) -- Stu Barnes scored twice in a 20-second span of the second period as the Dallas Stars posted a 3-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild.

Barnes tied it, 1-1, at 8:16 of the second when he put away Jason Arnott's pass from the left boards to the front of the crease.

"I've been getting a few bounces," Barnes said. "Being on this line and being a part of this is just fun. It's been a lot of fun playing with those guys on this line.

"Jason is just playing great. He is a great player and huge part of the success of this team."

Moments later, Barnes got his stick on a clearing attempt from behind the net by goaltender Manny Fernandez. By the time Fernandez got back in position, Barnes had beaten him with a quick, low shot from the right faceoff circle.

"We kept coming and coming. Once we got in deep, we got a couple of goals and made the most of it," Arnott said. "On our line we just look for anybody. He (Barnes) just puts pucks on net and he's a smart player."

Barnes nearly recorded a hat trick with 50 seconds left in the game but broke his stick on a shot.

Barnes leads Dallas with five goals in six games. He had just two goals in the first 13 games last season.

Bill Guerin added a 5-on-3 power-play goal with 6:57 left in the second to cap the scoring. Brad Brown was called for a high-sticking double-minor and Richard Park was penalized for holding to give the Stars the two-man advantage.

"There are certain things that are frustrating, starting with penalties," Wild coach Jacques Lemaire said. "We have to make it stop."

Austrian-born Christoph Brandner scored his second NHL goal for Minnesota, tipping Pierre-Marc Bouchard's shot past Marty Turco's left pad with 9:02 left in the first period.

"It was good at the time, but a win would have been nicer, Brandner said. "We were trying hard and we had some good chances, we just need some luck."

Turco faced only 11 shots en route to his fourth win. Fernandez, who made his NHL debut with Dallas in 1995, made 27 saves.

"In the second period, if we get a few calls, it could have been a different game," Fernandez said.

Hurt by the holdouts of Marian Gaborik and Pascual Dupuis, Minnesota fell to 1-4-1.

"This is not a good indication of our team," Lemaire said. "We are a better skating team than we showed there."

Dallas improved to 3-3-1-0 at home against Minnesota and 6-5-1-1 in the all-time series.
