DALLAS (Ticker) -- Andrew Raycroft ended the Boston Bruins' nine-game winless streak against the Dallas Stars in spectacular fashion.

Raycroft made 27 saves for his first NHL shutout and Brian Rolston scored both goals as the Bruins recorded a 2-0 blanking for their first victory over the Stars in nearly seven years.

Coming off a 35-save performance in Saturday's 1-1 tie at Florida, Raycroft almost single-handedly led Boston to its first win of the season and coach Mike Sullivan to his first NHL victory.

"It feels good to get two points out of this," Sullivan said. "We certainly dodged a bullet against a hungry team and a talented group."

Raycroft turned aside 23 shots over the final two periods, when the Bruins managed just eight shots on Marty Turco. He also got some help from the Stars, who put three shots off goalposts and had former All-Star Bill Guerin miss an open net during a power play with 9:57 left in the third period.

"With that lineup, you can't think farther ahead than one second," Raycroft said. "They worked the net hard and created a couple of chances. We needed some breaks and we got them tonight."

"We missed some great opportunities," Guerin conceded. "Sometimes you've just got to do a little bit more, and we didn't."

Raycroft played for Sullivan last season with Providence of the American Hockey League.

"There was no doubt in my mind that he could come in here and do the same thing he did in Providence," Sullivan said. "He worked real hard in the summertime and has taken control of his game."

Rolston scored the only goal Raycroft needed with 2:52 to go in the opening period, then beat defenseman Sergei Zubov to a loose puck and slid it into an empty net with six seconds to go in the third.

Boston got on the board when P.J. Axelsson whipped a pass from the outer edge of the right faceoff circle. It hit former Bruins defenseman Don Sweeney in front of the net and caromed to Rolston, who banged it in for his first goal of the season.

Dallas dominated the second period, outshooting Boston, 15-5. But made a point-blank stop on defenseman Teppo Numminen with 18 1/2 minutes left and caught a break when Jason Arnott ran a blast from the right faceoff dot off the left post 2 1/2 minutes later.

Guerin's wrister from in close was smothered with 12 minutes remaining, Arnott and Mike Modano also hit goalposts and Raycroft made a glove save on Numminen's power-play blast through traffic second before the end of the period.

"We've got to find a way to capitalize on our chances," Stars defenseman Richard Matvichuk said. "We thought it was a matter of time before we would score, but (Raycroft) had a great game."

In addition to Guerin's glorious chance in the third, rookie Antti Miettinen was stopped from the top of the crease and Arnott was denied from the right side in the final minute.

"I didn't think we played that strong. Razor kept us in the game, and it was a total team effort in the end," Rolston said. "The penalty-kill played very well. Tonight we got the monkey off our back and got some confidence."

"It was a pretty good effort," Stars coach Dave Tippett said. "We only gave up (13) shots and created a lot of quality opportunities. We just couldn't finish. (Raycroft) made some pretty good saves and we hit some posts."
