*Favre looks to become NFL's winningest quarterback*

Green Bay (1-0) at NY Giants (1-0) Sunday 1:00 pm EDT

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Brett Favre looks to reach a milestone he might never have imagined when he was a relatively unknown quarterback coming out of Southern Mississippi in 1991.

Favre can become the winningest quarterback in NFL history Sunday when the Green Bay Packers visit the banged-up New York Giants.

The 17-year veteran was unspectacular in last week's season-opening 16-13 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, completing 23-of-42 passes for 206 yards and an interception.

But Favre got plenty of help from Green Bay's special teams to tie Hall of Famer John Elway's mark with his 148th career victory. Cornerback Jarrett Bush recovered J.R. Reed's muffed punt at the Eagles 31 with 59 seconds left, setting up Mason Crosby's game-winning 43-yard field goal.

"I think ultimately you're judged by wins and losses, but I think that is unfair to the rest of my team," Favre said. "How can the quarterback who is one of 53 (players) be labeled with wins and losses and not the center or safety or whatever. But that's the way it is and I'm glad there's a lot more wins than there is losses."

Now, Favre could be getting another break as he is facing a Giants team that was hit hard by injuries in last week's 45-35 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

The Giants could be without quarterback Eli Manning, running back Brandon Jacobs and defensive end Osi Umenyiora, who all went down against the Cowboys.

Jacobs has been ruled out of Sunday's game with a sprained medial collateral ligament of the right knee and will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis. Jacobs will be replaced by Derrick Ward, who rushed for 89 yards on 13 carries and caught four passes for 27 yards last week.

The status of Manning, who suffered a contusion on the top of his throwing shoulder in the fourth quarter against the Cowboys, and Umenyiora (left knee irritation) are uncertain.

According to various reports, Manning is expected to miss up to a month but the Giants have not ruled him out of Sunday's game and coach Tom Coughlin described the injury as a "sprained shoulder."

"It's sore right now, that's about all there is to it," Manning said on Monday. "The day after you get hit on it, it's just going to be a little sore and a little tight. But overall I'm not in pain or am not hurting in any way. So it is just a matter of when I can throw the ball."

Manning has started 40 consecutive games, the fourth-longest active streak in the NFL. He played well against the Cowboys, completing 28-of-41 passes for 312 yards and a career high-tying four touchdowns.

However, Favre will look to exploit the Giants' porous defense, which gave up huge chunks of yardage last week. Dallas quarterback Tony Romo completed 15-of-24 passes for 345 yards and four touchdowns - an average of 23 yards per completion.

The Packers are seeking their sixth straight win dating to the end of last season. They have not started 2-0 since 2001, when they opened 3-0.
