MIAMI (Ticker) -- Olindo Mare was able to redeem himself.

After missing a field goal that could have won the game late in the fourth quarter, Mare kicked a 43-yarder 6:12 into overtime, lifting the Miami Dolphins to a 9-6 victory over the Baltimore Ravens.

One of the NFL's top kickers, Mare missed a 48-yard field goal with 2:27 left in regulation. He also converted from 23 yards and a season-long 52 yards.

"After the first one, I was hoping to get a second chance," said Mare, who missed potential winning kicks in the fourth quarter and overtime of a loss to New England four weeks ago. "Nobody feels worse than I do when you miss, for the team, and it's nice to get a second chance."

Mare got another chance in overtime when Jamal Lewis - the NFL's leading rusher - lost a fumble in his own territory.

"We had penalties and turnovers, and Miami's defense is pretty good," Ravens coach Brian Billick said. "That was the difference in a 9-6 game."

The Dolphins (6-4) did not get much from quarterback Brian Griese, who completed just 13-of-32 passes for 126 yards.

Griese threw what looked like a key interception with 5:46 left in the fourth quarter. But after Ed Reed's pickoff at the Miami 36, Baltimore quarterback Anthony Wright was intercepted two plays later by safety Sammy Knight.

"With six games to go, it's always panic city," Knight said. "It was just the usual, pressure-filled game."

Ricky Williams rushed 36 times for 105 yards for the Dolphins (6-4), who avoided a three-game losing streak. It was Williams' first 100-yard effort since September 21, a span of seven games.

"There was definitely more room out there today," Williams said. "That makes a big difference."

Baltimore (5-5) has lost back-to-back games, falling into a first-place tie with the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC North.

"Of course we're mad," Reed said. "Nobody likes to lose. It's frustrating that we lost. We're the better team, we don't care who we're playing."

Lewis carried 26 times for 88 yards, running his season total to 1,244 yards.
