New York Jets at Philadelphia Eagles

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The New York Jets will have quarterback Chad Pennington back on Sunday when they visit the "City of Brotherly Love" for the first time since 1978 for a meeting against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Jets coach Herman Edwards announced that Pennington will play Sunday, but Vinny Testaverde will remain as the starter.

"Vinny will start and Chad will come in the game," said Edwards, who played for the Eagles in that 1978 game against the Jets. "I'll not let you know when Chad will come into the game. We'll keep that to ourselves."

The NFL leader in passer rating last season, Pennington suffered a fractured and dislocated left wrist when he landed awkwardly after being tackled from behind in an August 23 preseason game against the New York Giants.

The Jets expected him to return sometime in November, but Pennington dressed as the emergency third quarterback in last Sunday's 19-14 win at Houston.

After starting the year 0-4, Testaverde passed for a total of four touchdowns in back-to-back wins over Buffalo and Houston.

In the win over Houston, Testaverde directed an eight-play, 86-yard drive that LaMont Jordan capped with an eight-yard touchdown run with 1:21 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Testaverde lost his starting job to Pennington after the Jets started 1-3 in 2002.

Pennington led the Jets to an 8-4 record the rest of the way and an AFC East Division title. He completed 69 percent of his passes for 3,120 yards and 22 touchdowns with six interceptions for a rating of 104.2.

While the Jets' quarterback situation seems to be becoming a bit more clear with the return of Pennington, the situation is anything but clear for the Eagles, who have watched Donovan McNabb struggle the entire season.

McNabb - the NFL's highest paid quarterback - has completed a woeful 47.9 percent of his passes (91-of-190) for 854 yards, two touchdowns, six interceptions and an abysmal 51.1 rating.

In last Sunday's 14-10 win over the New York Giants, McNabb completed his first five passes but finished just 9-of-23 for 64 yards with one interception. He also was sacked three times, bringing his total to 21 on the season.

Eagles coach Andy Reid admitted after the win over the Giants that he thought of pulling McNabb, who has been battling a sprained right thumb at halftime. He also has said that he may scale back McNabb in practice this week.

Brian Westbrook gave the Eagles the win over the Giants by returning a punt 84 yards for a touchdown with 1:16 remaining. He also scored on a six-yard run in the first half and accounted for 78 of the Eagles' 134 total yards.

Westbrook has been one of the lone bright spots for the Eagles, who rank 30th in the NFL in scoring offense at 15.8 points per game. A second-year player from Villanova, Westbrook has rushed for a touchdown in four straight games.

The Eagles have won all six previous meetings with the Jets.
