Kitna spent five seasons with the Seahawks (1996-2000) and was the club's starting quarterback for the final two campaigns under Holmgren. But after starting 12 games in his final season in Seattle, Holmgren decided to go in a different direction at quarterback by acquiring Matt Hasselbeck and signing Trent Dilfer as a free agent. Kitna has started 31 games over the last three-plus seasons since signing with the Bengals prior to the 2001 campaign. But it is no secret that his days as the Bengals' starter are numbered until first-round pick Carson Palmer is deemed ready. Last Sunday, Kitna had his best game of the season as he completed 26-of-44 passes for 274 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-26 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. With Hasselbeck firmly entrenched as the Seahawks starter, Holmgren has his best team since becoming Seattle coach in 1999. The Seahawks have won five of their first six games for the first time in club history and lead St. Louis by one game in the NFC West. Last week, Shaun Alexander had the go-ahead 25-yard touchdown run with 58 seconds left and rookie cornerback Marcus Trufant followed with an interception as the Seahawks edged the Chicago Bears, 24-17. Seattle leads the series, 8-7, and is visiting Cincinnati for the first time since 1993.
