Kansas City Chiefs at Baltimore Ravens

BALTIMORE (Ticker) -- Priest Holmes left Baltimore and became a star. On Sunday, Holmes gets a crack at his old team when the Kansas City Chiefs meet the Baltimore Ravens.

After being a backup to Ricky Williams in college at Texas, Holmes signed with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 1997.

He spent four seasons with the Ravens and was a member of their Super Bowl team in 2000, where he was a backup to rookie Jamal Lewis, who was drafted in the first round.

Holmes signed with the Chiefs as a free agent and, after picking up his Super Bowl ring, he is now arguably the NFL's best all-around running back. In his first two seasons with the Chiefs, Holmes rushed for 3,170 yards and 29 touchdowns while adding 132 catches for 1,286 yards and six scores.

This season has been much of the same for Holmes, who is second in the league in yards from scrimmage with 467. He has rushed for 296 yards and seven touchdowns and leads the team with 13 receptions for 171 yards.

While Holmes has shined with the Chiefs, the Ravens have to be happy with Lewis, who leads the NFL in yards from scrimmage with 507. Lewis also leads the league with 496 yards rushing.

Two weeks ago, Lewis put himself in the NFL record book by rushing for a single-game record 295 yards in a victory over Cleveland. Lewis followed that performance up by rushing for 132 yards and a touchdown in last Sunday's 24-10 win at San Diego.

Lewis has been carrying the Ravens' offense while rookie quarterback Kyle Boller has struggled. In three games, the first-round pick has completed 41-of-81 passes for 328 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Last Sunday, Holmes rushed for 89 yards and two touchdowns as the Chiefs remained unbeaten with a 42-14 rout of the Houston Texans.

Holmes gets another test in this contest against the Ravens, who feature perhaps the NFL's best middle linebacker in Ray Lewis, who has collected 24 tackles in three games.

The Chiefs, who have won their three games by an astounding score of 110-48, are trying to win their first four contests since also starting 4-0 in 1996.

Kansas City won the only other meeting between the teams, claiming a 35-8 victory in Baltimore in 1998.
