Grambling Tigers topped by San Jose St. Spartans 0-29

SAN JOSE, California (Ticker) -- Scott Rislov threw for 321 yards and a touchdown and San Jose State recorded its first shutout in almost 14 years in a 29-0 win over Grambling in the inaugural Literacy Classic.

Rislov completed 24-of-38 yards, including a 20-yard scoring strike to Leon Pinky for the only score of the opening quarter.

Jeff Carr kicked field goals of 43, 47 and 25 yards for the Spartans, a member of the Western Athletic Conference who finished 6-7 last season.

Grambling, a Division I-AA team, was held to 260 yards as San Jose State posted its first shutout since a 42-0 triumph over Nevada-Las Vegas on November 19, 1988.

Carr's first field goal gave the Spartans a 10-0 halftime lead and his 47-yarder was the only score of the third quarter.

San Jose put the game out of reach with a pair of scores early in the fourth quarter. Yonus Davis scored on a two-yard run and Gerald Jones picked off a pass from Bruce Eugene and returned it 46 yards for a score.

Eugene completed 23-of-47 passes for 210 yards.

The game featured a pair of black head coaches - Fitz Hill of San Jose State and Doug Williams of Grambling.
