BLACKSBURG, Virginia (Ticker) -- No. 9 Virginia Tech continues a busy week and a season-opening four-game homestand when it plays Division I-AA James Madison on Saturday.
Bryan Randall threw three touchdown passes and freshman Marcus Vick added another as the Hokies (1-0) went on to a 49-28 victory over Central Florida on Sunday.
Hokies coach Frank Beamer knows he may have a budding quarterback controversy between Randall, the starter in 2002, and Vick, the younger brother of former Hokies star and Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick.
Randall was given the start and completed 22-of-28 passes for 278 yards. Vick also saw time and was 7-of-10 for 102 yards.
However, Vick will not play this weekend as he and starting linebacker Brandon Manning were suspended one game for a "violation of team policies." Beamer did not specify the violation.
Sophomore Chris Clifton will back up Randall and Aaron Rouse will start for Manning on Saturday.
Kevin Jones carried 22 times for 83 yards and two touchdowns last week before leaving the game in the third quarter with a shin injury that is not believed to be serious.
James Madison (1-0) opened the season with a 48-6 win over Liberty as freshman Alvin Banks rushed for 157 yards and a touchdown. It was the most rushing yards by a James Madison player in his first game.
Linebacker Mike Wilkerson had 12 tackles for James Madison, a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Virginia Tech has won all five meetings with James Madison, including a 47-0 rout in 1999 in which Michael Vick ran for three first-half scores.
The Hokies do not play a road game until October 4 at Rutgers.
