FRESNO, California (Ticker) -- Brett Visintainer's 47-yard field goal with 31 seconds remaining gave Fresno State a thrilling 16-14 victory over Oregon State.
Jeff Grady, who completed just 22-of-49 passes and threw three interceptions, led the Bulldogs (1-1) on a nine-play, 58-yard drive after they got back the ball with 2:54 remaining.
Grady threw for 276 yards and a touchdown, completing several clutch passes on the winning drive. Visintainer, who also connected on field goals of 20 and 28 yards, came through before Fresno State forced the Beavers (1-1) to turn over the ball on downs with four seconds left.
Fresno State improved to 6-0 all-time at home against Oregon State, including a 44-24 triumph two years ago. The Beavers manhandled the Bulldogs last year in Corvallis, 59-19.
The Bulldogs had a 13-7 lead after Visintainer kicked a 28-yard field goal with 11:03 left in the third quarter.
The Beavers grabbed a 14-13 edge three seconds into the fourth quarter on a 39-yard TD pass from Derek Anderson to Mike Hass.
With just over nine minutes to play, Fresno State blocked a field-goal attempt by Oregon State's Kirk Yliniemi, who had made a school-record 17 in a row. The Bulldogs were penalized for illegally scooping the ball forward, and the Beavers decided to go for it on 4th-and-goal at the 1-yard line.
But Oregon State's Steven Jackson was stuffed short of the goal line.
Jackson rushed 34 times for 128 yards and a touchdown and caught five passes for 116 yards. Anderson was just 15-of-44 for 285 yards with a touchdown and five interceptions.
Marque Davis had seven receptions for 129 yards and Bernard Berrian added five catches for 80 yards and a TD for Fresno State.
