EAST LANSING, Michigan (Ticker) -- Jeff Smoker made his final regular season game a memorable one.

Smoker tied a school mark with four touchdown passes as Michigan State rolled to a 41-10 Big Ten Conference victory over Penn State, which set a school record for losses.

Smoker, who returned this year after being suspended for the final five games of last season for substance abuse, went out in style, completing 29-of-50 passes for 357 yards.

The same cannot be said for Penn State (3-9, 1-7), which completed the worst season in school history in dismal fashion. The Nittany Lions' previous record for losses came in 1931, when they finished 2-8 and coach Joe Paterno was five years old.

Penn State took a 3-0 lead on Robbie Gould's 29-yard field goal midway through the first half but the Spartans (8-4, 5-3) responded with 41 straight points.

Michigan State avenged last year's 61-7 drubbing to Penn State that completed a 4-8 season. It was the most points allowed by the Spartans since a 63-0 loss to Michigan in 1922.

Smoker got the Spartans going in this one with a 80-yard TD pass to Kyle Brown with 3:14 left in the first quarter, and also threw scoring strikes to Eric Knott, Jerremy Scott and Jason Randall.

Zack Mills completed just 11-of-24 passes for 114 yards for the Nittany Lions and was sacked four times before being benched. Penn State was held to just 55 yards rushing.

Penn State got in the end zone on Michael Robinson's 13-yard TD pass to Terrence Phillips with 11 seconds remaining.
