Indiana Hoosiers defeated by Penn State Nittany Lions 7-52 Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003 Boxscore STATE COLLEGE, Pennsylvania (Ticker) -- Penn State avoided a school record for losses as Zack Mills tossed three touchdown passes in a 52-7 Big Ten Conference rout of Indiana. Mills threw TD strikes of 12 and five yards to Tony Johnson in the first quarter, then found Maurice Humphrey for a 33-yard score early in the second period that gave the Nittany Lions a 21-7 halftime lead. Mills completed 12-of-19 passes for 173 yards. The Nittany Lions (3-8, 1-6) snapped a six-game losing streak, earning their first Big Ten win of the season. It was Penn State's first victory since beating Kent State, 32-10, on September 9. Penn State still needs to beat Michigan State next week to avoid the worst season in the program's 126-year history. The Nittany Lions went 2-8 in 1931, when coach Joe Paterno was five years old. Penn State overcame a spectacular game by Indiana's Benjarvus Green-Ellis, who rushed for 203 yards on 42 carries. The Nittany Lions broke it open in a 31-point third period in which they scored two defensive touchdowns. In the third quarter, Andrew Guman returned a blocked punt eight yards for a TD and and safety Tony Johnson took back an interception 30 yards. Backup Michael Robinson run for a TD and passed for a score in the period. Matt LoVecchio completed 14-of-27 passes for 112 yards and a TD for the Hoosiers (2-9, 1-6), who were unable to build on last week's win over Illinois.
