NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Jay Cutler nearly ended Vanderbilt's 23-game Southeastern Conference losing streak all by himself.

Cutler completed 14-of-17 passes for 175 yards and four touchdowns and ran 11 times for 129 yards as the Commodores defeated Kentucky, 28-17.

The Commodores (2-9, 1-6 SEC East) had not won an SEC game since a 24-20 triumph over the Wildcats on November 11, 2000.

Vanderbilt, which snapped an eight-game overall losing streak, took the lead for good, 7-3, on a 24-yard pass from Cutler to Erik Davis with 11:48 left in the second quarter.

Cutler's 17-yard TD to Matthew Tant 10 minutes later made it 14-3 and his 43-yard strike to Marlon White three minutes into the second half opened up an 18-point advantage.

Cutler spread his 14 completions among nine receivers, with Davis catching three - two for touchdowns - for 39 yards.

Jared Lorenzen went 15-of-35 for 234 yards, one touchdown and one interception and Arliss Beach had 18 carries for 109 yards and a score for Kentucky (4-6, 1-5). The Wildcats were playing for the first time since a seven-overtime loss to Arkansas two weeks ago.
