ATLANTA (Ticker) -- P.J. Daniels rushed for 240 yards on 34 carries and Jonathan Smith scored two long touchdowns in the final 4 1/2 minutes as Georgia Tech pulled away for a 41-24 Atlantic Coast Conference victory over North Carolina.

Daniels also caught an eight-yard touchdown pass from Reggie Ball as the Yellow Jackets bounced back from last week's 41-17 setback to Duke to become bowl eligible.

After North Carolina closed to 27-24, Smith, who also threw a TD pass, scored on a 80-yard strike from Ball and a 79-yard punt return in a span of 56 seconds.

Ball completed 13-of-25 passes for 122 yards and three TDs for Georgia Tech (6-4, 4-3), which broke a 17-17 tie with 24 points in the fourth quarter.

The Yellow Jackets took the lead for good, 20-17, on Dan Burnett's 31-yard field goal eight seconds into the fourth quarter.

Georgia Tech made it 27-17 on Smith's 26-yard halfback option pass to Nate Curry with 9:51 remaining.

Darian Durant completed 26-of-40 passes for 289 yards and two TDs for the Tar Heels (2-9, 1-6), who have dropped four of their last five. Ronnie McGill led North Carolina on the ground with 95 yards on 19 carries.

Durant rushed for a touchdown and passed for a score in the first half to give the Tar Heels a 14-10 lead at the intermission.
