LEXINGTON, Kentucky (Ticker) -- Derek Abney tied an NCAA record with his eighth career punt return for a touchdown as Kentucky rallied with 42 unanswered points for a 42-17 victory over Southeastern Conference rival Mississippi State.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the opening 18 minutes and had a 10-point halftime cushion. The Wildcats went 80 yards on nine plays on the opening drive of the third quarter and pulled within 17-14 on Arliss Beach's one-yard TD run.

Abney gave Kentucky (4-4, 1-3 SEC) the lead for good 75 seconds later, returning a punt 80 yards for a score. He caught a 53-yard touchdown pass from Jared Lorenzen early in the fourth for a 28-17 cushion.

It was the 75th career touchdown pass for Lorenzen, breaking the previous school record held by current Cleveland Browns quarterback Tim Couch.

Beach added his second touchdown run with 10:22 left and Gibson Monquan capped the scoring with a three-yard run as the Wildcats won their first conference game under coach Rich Brooks.

Lorenzen completed 16-of-24 for 256 yards before leaving late in the game. He injured his right leg while scrambling and was replaced by Shane Boyd.

Jerious Norwood ran 11 times for 133 yards, including a 58-yard TD, for Mississippi State (2-6, 1-3), which is winless in four road games this season.
