Northwestern Wildcats defeat Indiana Hoosiers 37-31

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana (Ticker) -- Jason Wright ran for 141 and four touchdowns, including a four-yard run in overtime, as Northwestern posted a 37-31 victory over Indiana in a matchup of teams seeking their first win in the Big Ten Conference.

Northwestern (3-4, 1-2 Big Ten) won the overtime toss and elected to go on defense first. It paid off when safety Bryan Heinz intercepted Matt LoVecchio in the end zone.

Wright rushed four times for 14 yards on the Wildcats' winning drive.

Northwestern built a 17-0 lead after one quarter as Wright scored on a one-yard plunge and Brett Basanez tossed an 77-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Horn. Basanez completed 13-of-20 passes for 191 yards.

Indiana (1-6, 0-3) eventually got its running attack going to get back in the game. The Hoosiers rushed for 327 yards as BenJarvus Green-Ellis carried 25 times for 136 yards and Bryan Lewis rushed 21 times for 128 yards.

Green-Ellis scored his third touchdown of the game on a two-yard run with 11:54 left in the fourth quarter to give the Hoosiers a 31-24 advantage. Wright tied it on a one-yard TD plunge with 4:46 to go that was set up by Mark Philmore's 60-yard punt return.

Indiana had a chance to win the game in regulation, but Bryan Robertson's 54-yard field goal as time expired fell short.

LoVecchio completed 13-of-20 passes for 204 yards with two interceptions.
