North Carolina State Wolfpack down to Ga. Tech Yellow Jackets 21-29

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- Freshman Reggie Ball threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as Georgia Tech denied North Carolina State its 500th win in school history with a 29-21 Atlantic Coast Conference victory.

Ball completed 24-of-37 passes for 283 yards, including TD passes of 42 yards to Jonathan Smith in the first quarter and five yards to Nate Curry in the second that helped the Yellow Jackets build a 22-10 halftime lead.

Ball added a four-yard touchdown run with 12:35 left in the game as the Yellow Jackets (3-3, 1-2) built a 29-13 cushion.

Smith caught nine passes for 155 yards to help Georgia Tech defeat NC State for the eighth time in the last nine meetings.

Georgia Tech also did the job defensively, holding the normally potent North Carolina State offense to its lowest point total of the season.

Philip Rivers of North Carolina State (3-3, 1-2) completed 31-of-46 passes for 344 yards and two touchdowns. One of his TD passes was an 11-yarder to Richard Washington with six seconds left.

Jerricho Cotchery of the Wolfpack was limited to five catches for 71 yards, including a 15-yard TD pass from Rivers in the second quarter.

Tramain Hall had nine catches for 102 yards for the Wolfpack, whose all-time record is 499-483-55.

Dan Burnett of Georgia Tech kicked field goals of 48, 26 and 25 yards.
