Arkansas St. Indians down to Memphis Tigers 16-38

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Danny Wimprine went over the 5,000-yard mark in career passing as Memphis came alive in the second half to post a 38-16 victory over Arkansas State.

Wimprine, Memphis' all-time leader in career passing yards, completed 20-of-35 passes for 238 yards and three touchdowns.

The Tigers (3-1) trailed, 10-3, at halftime, but Wimprine sparked the offense in the third quarter with TD passes of 15 and three yards to Darron White in a 4 1/2-minute span.

Arkansas State closed to 17-16 on Antonio Warren's one-yard TD run with 2:40 left in the third quarter, but the extra point was blocked.

Memphis put away the contest with 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. Wimprine scored on a four-yard TD run 41 seconds into the fourth and capped the scoring with a two-yard TD strike to Maurice Avery with 5:36 to.

DeAngelo Williams rushed for 108 yards on 23 carries for Memphis, including an 18-yard TD run with 8:08 left in the contest.

Elliott Jacobs completed 16-of-27 passes for 171 yards for the Indians, (2-3), who were coming off a 54-7 loss to Tulsa.

Memphis posted its ninth straight win over Arkansas State to take a 26-20-5 lead in a series that dates to 1914.
