South Florida Bulls top Army Cadets 28-0

WEST POINT, New York (Ticker) -- South Florida made its first Conference USA game a success, allowing just 176 total yards in a 28-0 victory over Army.

Ronnie Banks completed 22-of-41 passes for 218 yards for the Bulls (2-1, 1-0 C-USA), who forced six turnovers and recorded their first shutout since the final game of the 2000 season.

South Florida has rebounded from a season-opening loss at Alabama with a pair of wins. The Bulls, who had been an independent before joining Conference USA, were 9-2 last season in just their second year at the Division I-A level.

Santiago Gramatica kicked field goals of 26 and 32 yards in the second quarter before DeJuan Green's two-yard touchdown run with 21 seconds left in the half gave South Florida a 13-0 lead.

Clenton Crossley scored on a three-yard scamper in the third quarter before defensive back Kevin Verpaele returned an interception 29 yards for a score in the fourth period.

Zac Dahman completed just 17-of-40 passes for 116 yards for the Cadets (0-4, 0-2), who managed just 17 yards on the ground.

Army suffered its 11th straight home loss and was outscored 154-75 on its season-opening four-game homestand.

The Cadets lost three of six fumbles and also threw three interceptions.
