EAST HARTFORD, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Connecticut took a step back in its steady ascent up the Division I-A football ladder as Quinton Porter threw a pair of touchdown passes to lead Boston College to a 24-14 victory.

Dan Orlovsky completed only 26-of-55 passes and was intercepted three times as UConn (2-1) lost for the first time this season. The Huskies were coming off a 48-21 rout of Army.

This is just the third year of Division I-A football for UConn, which officially joins the Big East Conference next season. The Huskies already have established a program as competitive as Big East patsies Rutgers and Temple.

UConn opened the game with an 87-yard TD drive, but Horace Dodd tied it with an eight-yard run midway through the first quarter and Porter found Jason Lilly with a 25-yard scoring strike to make it 14-7 just 20 seconds before the second.

The Eagles (2-1) put together 24 consecutive points over the first three quarters. Sandro Sciortino kicked a 40-yard field goal on the final play of the first half to make it 17-7 and Porter threw a 29-yard strike to David Kashetta early in the third period.

Porter completed 14-of-27 passes for 156 yards with an interception and Derrick Knight rushed 26 times for 170 yards for the Eagles, who open Big East play next week against Miami.

Boston College had only 344 yards of total offense to 386 for UConn, but forced three of the game's four turnovers.

Terry Caulley had 99 yards rushing and a TD catch for the Huskies.

The Eagles improved to 9-0-2 in the all-time series, which was dark between 1929-1999.
