Air Force Falcons over Northwestern Wildcats 22-21 Saturday, Sep. 6, 2003 Boxscore EVANSTON, Illinois (Ticker) -- Joey Ashcroft kicked a 25-yard field goal with 2:01 remaining as Air Force rallied from a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter for a 22-21 victory over Northwestern. Brett Basanez threw interceptions on Northwestern's final three possessions, helping the Falcons erase a 21-7 deficit. Nate Allen returned the first interception 79 yards to bring Air Force within 21-19 with 5:49 left. The Wildcats (1-1) held on to the lead as the two-point conversion run failed. But Dennis Poland brought back another interception 17 yards to the Wildcats' 22 on the ensuing possession. Five plays later, Ashcroft's field goal put the Falcons (2-0) ahead. Larry Duncan ended Northwestern's hopes three plays later with a 23-yard interception return. It was the fourth interception thrown by Basenez, who completed just 15-of-38 passes for 234 yards and a touchdown. Air Force trimmed the deficit to 21-13 on the first play of the fourth quarter as Anthony Butler ran four yards for a touchdown. Butler rushed for 107 yards and two TDs on just 12 carries. Chance Harridge completed just 2-of-7 passes for 51 yards for Air Force (2-0) before he was ejected early in the third quarter for throwing a punch. Air Force's offense struggled for three quarters as Northwestern opened a 21-7 lead on Noah Herron's one-yard run with 10:57 left in the third period. Jason Wright of the Wildcats topped the 100-yard mark for the ninth time in 12 games, totaling 108 yards and a TD on 22 attempts.
