COLUMBIA, Missouri (Ticker) -- In a battle of explosive quarterbacks, Missouri's Brad Smith upstaged Texas Tech's B.J. Symons.

Smith rushed for 291 yards and a school-record five touchdowns on just 19 carries as Missouri pulled away for a 62-31 victory over Texas Tech in a Big 12 Conference contest.

The rushing total was the second-highest in school history behind only Devin West, who ran for 319 yards against Kansas on September 12, 1998.

Smith, who scored four touchdowns in Missouri's win over Nebraska on October 25, also set a school mark for total touchdowns in a game.

The sophomore also completed 13-of-24 passes for 128 yards. His 419 yards of total offense was the second-highest single-game total in Missouri history.

Symons completed 40-of-62 passes for 408 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions for the Red Raiders (5-3, 2-2 Big 12 South), who have dropped two straight.

After Texas Tech nearly erased a 27-point deficit in last week's 51-49 loss to Oklahoma State, Symons again tried to rally the Red Raiders from a big deficit.

After Missouri (6-2, 2-2 Big 12 North) opened a 27-3 lead on Michael Matheny's 33-yard field goal with 12:40 left in the first half, Texas Tech closed to 41-31 on Symons' 26-yard TD pass to Carlos Francis with 13:34 left in the contest.

But Smith took over in the fourth quarter, scoring on runs of two, 41 and 61 yards in the final 12 minutes. He averaged 15.3 yards per carry.

Zack Abron also surpassed the century mark for Missouri, rushing for 139 yards and three TDs on 25 carries.

Texas Tech had two receivers with more than 100 yards. Wes Welker caught 13 passes for 102 yards and Francis grabbed eight for 126 yards and two TDs.
