CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia (Ticker) -- No. 20 Virginia Tech looks to end a roller coaster regular season on a high note Saturday when it visits Virginia in the 75th meeting between the schools.

After winning their first six games, the Hokies (8-3) have gone just 2-3, alternating losses and wins in each of their last five games.

Kevin Jones set a single-season school record for rushing last week, but it came in a losing effort as Virginia Tech suffered a 34-27 defeat to Boston College in its final Big East Conference game. The loss saddled the Hokies, who are headed to the Atlantic Coast Conference next season, with a fourth-place finish in the Big East. They are likely relegated them to the Continental Tire Bowl on December 27.

Jones rushed for 165 yards and three touchdowns, increasing his season total to 1,419 and breaking the previous Virginia Tech record of 1,403 yards set by Cyrus Lawrence in 1981. But the Hokies squandered a 27-24 lead as Boston College's Grant Adams caught a 64-yard TD pass with 3 1/2 minutes remaining.

Virginia (6-5) became bowl eligible last week with a 29-17 victory over Georgia Tech in its ACC finale.

Matt Schaub, who holds 20 school records, will be making his final home appearance for the Cavaliers. He needs three touchdown passes to break the school mark of 55 set by Shawn Moore from 1987-89.

Schaub has completed 224-of-330 passes for 2,266 yards since missing nearly three games with a shoulder injury early in the season. He passed for 239 yards and a touchdown against Georgia Tech.

The Cavaliers are likely headed to the Tangerine Bowl on December 22.

Virginia Tech has won four straight against Virginia, including a 21-9 victory last season, to increase its lead in the all-time series to 43-36-5. The Hokies' winning streak is their longest in the series since a six-game run from 1958-1963.
