Recap | Boxscore

IOWA CITY, Iowa (Ticker) -- No. 23 Iowa hopes to produce another sharp defensive performance Saturday when it hosts Buffalo at Kinnick Stadium.

The Hawkeyes (1-0), last year's Big Ten Conference co-champions, began their season with a 21-3 triumph over Miami of Ohio last week. Iowa limited the RedHawks to 54 rushing yards on 29 carries, recorded four sacks and intercepted four passes.

Nathan Chandler, making his first start in place of departed Heisman Trophy runner-up Brad Banks, completed 12-of-19 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. Fred Russell rushed for 165 yards and a score.

Buffalo (0-1) had the nation's longest losing streak extended to 11 games with a 24-10 defeat at Rutgers, the only school it defeated a year ago.

Dave Dawson was just about the only bright spot for the Bulls, who fell behind, 21-0, at halftime and never caught up. Dawson ran for 125 yards and a score on 14 carries.

Buffalo's Randall Secky completed just 7-of-21 passes for 58 yards.

Saturday is the first meeting between the schools.
