New Orleans Hornets at Washington Wizards
7:00 pm
Recap | Boxscore

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- With their playoff position still up in the air, the New Orleans Hornets close the regular season Wednesday against the Washington Wizards.

New Orleans will open the playoffs on the road as a result of Monday's 101-97 loss to New York. The Hornets can be either the fifth, sixth or seventh seed.

A victory over Washington will clinch at least the sixth position. If the Hornets win and Miami and Milwaukee both lose Wednesday, New Orleans will earn the fifth seed.

The only scenario in which New Orleans will finish seventh is with a loss and a win by New York over Cleveland on Wednesday.

The good news from Monday's loss was the return of Baron Davis after he missed nine games with a sprained left ankle. Davis, wearing a brace on his left leg, finished with 14 points and four assists in 27 minutes.

Washington is concluding its first season under coach Eddie Jordan and its seventh straight out of the playoffs. The Wizards' lack of success was magnified against Atlantic Division foes as they fashioned just a 3-21 record against the division.

New Orleans is 2-1 against Washington - the home team has captured each matchup.
