WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- After snapping the longest slide in team history, the Orlando Magic try for their first winning streak of the season on Wednesday against the Washington Wizards at the MCI Center.
The Magic won their season opener before losing their next 19 games, eclipsing the previous franchise record of 17 straight defeats. They ended the skid and avoided becoming the sixth team in NBA history to lose 20 consecutive games with a 105-98 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Monday.
Drew Gooden scored 21 points and Juwan Howard and Gordan Giricek added 19 apiece for the Magic, who rallied from a 22-point first-quarter deficit.
Tracy McGrady had 16 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists as Orlando won for the first time in 10 games under coach Johnny Davis, who took over for Doc Rivers on November 18.
The Magic play six of their next eight games on the road, where they have lost eight in a row since winning their season opener at New York on October 29.
Washington finished a four-game road trip with a 93-79 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday.
Kwame Brown had 17 points and seven rebounds and Larry Hughes scored 16 points for the Wizards, who have lost five of their last six contests.
Washington continued to struggle offensively without star guard Jerry Stackhouse and leading scorer Gilbert Arenas. Stackhouse continues to recover from offseason knee surgery and Arenas is sidelined indefinitely with an abdominal strain.
Orlando split four games with Washington last season and has was 12 of the last 17 meetings.
