NEW ORLEANS (Ticker) -- The Orlando Magic are one loss away from matching the longest slide in franchise history as they finish a home-and-home series with the New Orleans Hornets at on Wednesday.
The Magic have lost 16 consecutive games since a season-opening win against the New York Knicks on October 29. The franchise record is a 17-game losing streak during the 1991-92 season - the year before they drafted Shaquille O'Neal.
New Orleans continued Orlando's free fall with a 100-92 victory in the opener of the home-and-home set at TD waterhouse Center on Monday.
Baron Davis had 21 points and 11 assists and rookie David West added season highs of 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Hornets, who have won seven of their last 10 games.
New Orleans forward P.J. Brown collected 13 points and 13 rebounds and Darrell Armstrong had 10 points just hours after he had charges of battery and resisting arrest dropped in court.
Gordan Giricek scored a season-high 23 points and Juwan Howard added 16 for Orlando, which completed a winless four-game homestand and fell to 0-10 at home this season.
Magic star Tracy McGrady scored just 16 points on 6-of-19 shooting but grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds. Drew Gooden also had a season-high 14 rebounds to go with 11 points.
Orlando has lost six consecutive games since firing coach Doc Rivers on November 17. The Hornets have won seven of the last 11 meetings with the Magic and have a 15-9 all-time record in home games against Orlando.
