Recap | Boxscore

MIAMI (Ticker) -- After picking up their first win under new coach Stan Van Gundy, the Miami Heat try to make it two in a row Friday night when they host the Washington Wizards in an Atlantic Division matchup.

Miami snapped its season-opening seven-game losing streak with Wednesday's 88-83 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Van Gundy spent six seasons as an assistant under Pat Riley, who resigned less than a week before the start of the season. The former University of Wisconsin coach had endured six losses in which the Heat failed to score more than 85 points before Wednesday.

Eddie Jones scored 25 points and Lamar Odom collected 14 and 10 rebounds for the Heat, who became the last team to record its first win.

Washington had not allowed more than 100 points in its first five games but has given up an average of 111.5 points in back-to-back losses against the Cleveland Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers.

In Tuesday's 112-105 home loss, the Wizards got 36 points from Gilbert Arenas, who has scored more than 20 in three of his last four games.

Washington won three of four meetings with the Heat last season and five of the last eight after losing 11 straight to Miami.
