FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) -- Florida Marlins third baseman Andy Fox tried to give away the game in the eighth inning before Armando Benitez did it again for the New York Mets in the ninth.

Luis Castillo tied it in the ninth with an RBI single and Ivan Rodriguez beat out a potential double play grounder to bring home the go-ahead run as the Marlins rallied for a 6-5 victory over the Mets.

Benitez (0-3), the beleaguered Mets' closer, suffered his fourth blown save, equaling his total for all of last season. While he did not allow a hard-hit ball, he struggled with his control as the Marlins loaded the bases on a pair of walks and an infield single.

Castillo blooped a single to left to score Todd Hollandsworth with the tying run before Rodriguez hit a chopper to shortstop and beat the relay to first, allowing Fox to score.

Fox entered as part of a double switch in the eighth and threw wildly to second base after fielding a potential double play grounder. That put runners at the corner for the Mets and Roberto Alomar responded with a two-run double that gave the Mets a 5-4 lead.

But Benitez again could not hold a lead, denying New York's Art Howe his 1,000th managerial victory.

Benitez was not the only Met to struggle. Center fielder Roger Cedeno misplayed a line drive by Derrek Lee in the sixth that resulted in a game-tying RBI double. Alex Gonzalez followed with a two-run double that gave Florida a 4-2 lead.

Mets shortstop Jay Bell also booted a ground ball that allowed the Marlins to score a run in the fourth.

Braden Looper (2-0) recorded the final five outs and earned the win, despite allowing Alomar's two-run double.
