SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- Aaron Cook could have used a little help from his defense. Instead, it led him to his second career loss at Qualcomm Stadium.

Rondell White extended his hitting streak to nine games with a home run as the San Diego Padres rallied for four runs in the seventh inning and posted a 6-2 triumph over the Colorado Rockies.

Looking for his first win in San Diego after being handed his only loss there last season, Cook (0-1) battled through six innings before running into trouble in the seventh.

Ramon Vazquez opened the frame with a single and Keith Lockhart followed with a double, ending Cook's afternoon. Javier Lopez entered and got Mark Kotsay to hit an easy grounder.

But the ball went under second baseman Ron Belliard's glove, allowing two runs to score and giving the Rockies the lead. Lopez struck out Ryan Klesko before giving way to Todd Jones, who served up a two-run homer to White for a 6-2 San Diego cushion.

"It was a curveball," White said. "He threw one before that and it was so slow, it caught me off guard. So I figured he was going to throw another curveball and I think I hit it OK."

Despite allowing four runs and 10 hits, Cook was pleased with his performance.

"I'm not really happy with the outcome of the game," he said. "But from the way I've been pitching to the way I pitched today, I'm a little more pleased with my mechanics and ability to throw fastballs for strikes. But I'm pretty disappointed that we lost the game."

"I liked his performance a lot," Colorado manager Clint Hurdle added. "He went into the seventh inning and left with only 80 pitches. He battled. ... He was efficient, got out of some big jams. He pitched a good ballgame today."

Jaret Wright (1-1) earned the win in relief, tossing two scoreless innings with a walk and two strikeouts.

"I felt good," Wright said. "My arm felt good and I was able to get a big double play. I worked out of a couple jams early and did a pretty good job."

Winless in his first two starts of the season, Oliver Perez worked his way out of trouble in both the third and fourth innings before finally succumbing in the fifth.

With one out in the third, Perez walked the bases loaded before striking out Jose Hernandez and getting Gabe Kapler to ground out. In the fourth, Chris Stynes drew a one-out walk and advanced on Belliard's two-out double. Perez walked Jay Payton but induced a groundout by Todd Helton to escape unscathed.

"Ollie had great stuff today," San Diego manager Bruce Bochy said. "We dodged bullets all day, especially early in the game. They had a lot of runners on base, but he made pitches when he had to. It was just that his pitch count caught up with him."

Preston Wilson opened the fifth with a single but was thrown out attempting to steal. Hernandez followed with a solo homer to left-center, giving Colorado a 1-0 lead and convincing Bochy to lift Perez.

The Padres took the lead in the bottom of the inning. Lou Merloni smacked a one-out single to center and scored on a triple by Vazquez. One out later, Kotsay singled to right for a 2-1 advantage.

Stynes led off the sixth for the Rockies against Clay Condrey and was hit by a pitch. After a sacrifice by Cook, Belliard evened the game with an RBI single to right.
