ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (Ticker) -- Marlon Anderson delivered a two-run double and rookie Rocco Baldelli followed with an RBI single to cap a four-run eighth inning as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays rallied for a 4-3 triumph over the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Devil Rays trailed by three runs in the eighth and had runners at first and second with two out when Terry Shumpert and Anderson came through with back-to-back doubles off Toronto starter Mark Hendrickson (1-3) to forge a 3-3 tie.

"We're going to have to do that kind of thing all year," Anderson said. "If our pitchers give us a chance and keep us in games, we can come back like this. Hopefully, we can also get some games where we can get up on teams early."

"I think as a team, we're kind of in shock," Hendrickson said. "I think we're all frustrated. If you look back, especially on this road trip, we had a couple of games we were just cruising along and then the wheels came off."

Kelvim Escobar replaced Hendrickson and uncorked a wild pitch before Baldelli singled in Anderson with the go-ahead run.

"When it was 0-2, I didn't know what he was going to come with," Baldelli said. "I was trying to work the count and make contact. I was trying to wait back. Eventually, he came with a fastball and that's what I slapped at."

The 21-year-old Baldelli went 2-for-4 and has 32 hits in 21 games. Two years ago, Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki had just one more hit in the same number of games en route to American League Rookie of the Year and MVP honors.

"He gives you a good at-bat," Devil Rays manager Lou Piniella said. "He hit respectably this spring, but you never know how a young man is going to respond coming out of `A' ball. He certainly is not fazed by the situation."

Carlos Delgado and Josh Phelps homered on consecutive pitches in the fourth for the Blue Jays, who have lost 12 of their last 14 games.

Delgado and Tampa Bay's Damion Easley left in the sixth inning after colliding at second as the Toronto first baseman broke up a potential double play. Delgado sustained a bruised left eye and Easley exited with a right knee bruise.

"It's not bad, I can see," Delgado said. "It's not blurry, I feel all right, it's just a little swollen. If I can open my eye (I'll play tomorrow), if I don't have a headache.

"He didn't come across the bag, he didn't back up, he just stood there and I went into his knee. I can't control what other people do. It was kind of awkward."

All three of Toronto's runs came on homers.

There were two outs in the fourth when Delgado belted a 2-2 pitch from Tampa Bay starter Victor Zambrano over the right field wall. Phelps launched the next pitch off the "D" ring catwalk in left field to make it 2-0.

Tom Wilson replaced Delgado at first and with one out in the eighth slugged a 2-2 pitch from righthander Travis Harper into the left field seats.

Hendrickson yielded just four hits in seven scoreless innings before the Devil Rays collected five during their explosive eighth.

"Mark pitched a great game. I'm a little baffled," Blue Jays manager Carlos Tosca said. "He had 78 pitches going into the inning and control. I'm baffled. I wish I had answers, but I don't. You're four outs away from victory."

Javier Valentin singled to center field with one out in the eighth and Carl Crawford followed with a base hit to right field.

Shumpert doubled to left, plating Valentin to get the Devil Rays on the board.

"Other than the breaking ball he hung to Shumpert, the other pitches were good pitches," Tosca said. "They were down in the strike zone and they just kind of fired them out there."

Anderson's double to right-center field drove in Crawford and Shumpert, tied it at 3-3 and chased Hendrickson.
