BRONX, New York (Ticker) -- The Toronto Blue Jays finally figured out a way to beat the New York Yankees.

Kelvim Escobar struck out Jorge Posada for the final out with runners at the corners as the Blue Jays snapped a six-game losing streak by holding on for a 7-6 victory over the Yankees.

Despite squandering a 5-0 lead, Toronto defeated New York for the first time in six tries this season.

"It was definitely a crazy game," Blue Jays first baseman Carlos Delgado said. "We went up 5-0, gave it back. After that, we settled down. It definitely wasn't pretty."

Dave Berg snapped a 5-5 tie in the top of the sixth with an RBI double off Sterling Hitchcock (0-1) before Tom Wilson reached Juan Acevedo for a solo homer in the ninth that turned out to be the winning run.

Starter Cory Lidle (2-2) got the win, despite squandering the five-run lead.

Escobar recovered after giving up a leadoff homer to Alfonso Soriano in the bottom of the ninth and recorded his second save.

David Wells, who came in with a 0.53 ERA, was not sharp for the Yankees, allowing five runs and 11 hits in five innings against his former team.

"When they know the fastball's coming, it's a matter of them just waiting for it," Wells said. "My offspeed pitches weren't that good tonight. They know that. It was just a matter of them sitting on the fastball. That's what happens when you don't have your best stuff."

Delgado crushed a 2-2 pitch into the right-center field bleachers for a three-run homer in the top of the fifth that gave the Blue Jays a 5-0 lead.

"I was down two strikes, just out there battling," Delgado said. "I was glad it went out. After that, 5-0, we felt very comfortable. But five runs is never enough when you're here at Yankee Stadium."

"I hung a curveball," Wells said. "I threw him a couple good ones. I didn't want to go away with guys in scoring position, I wanted to stay in. I hung one and he just waffled it."

But the Yankees came alive in the bottom of the fifth, putting together six straight hits to pull even. They tied it on Jason Giambi's two-run double.

"The positive part is we didn't give up and we kept coming back," Giambi said. "We made it a game. We had our chance, had a couple guys on third. We couldn't push them across."

Hitchcock, who has become something of a forgotten man in the Yankees' bullpen, did not endear himself to the fans, giving up a single to Shannon Stewart, who scored the go-ahead run when Berg ripped a double into the left field corner.

"I think it was a matter of trying to get comfortable out there again," Hitchcock said. "I think my stuff is definitely there, it was just a matter of locating."

Yankees' fans had other thoughts, jeering the lefthander.

"They are entitled to do whatever they want to do," Hitchcock said. "If they want to boo me, boo me. It's tough. The guys came back battling. Regardless of the score, it doesn't affect the way I pitch."

The Yankees appeared to come right back in the bottom of the sixth as Robin Ventura walked and Robin Ventura doubled. But Jeff Tam struck out rookie Erick Almonte and Soriano before Trever Miller got Nick Johnson swinging to end the inning.

Four Toronto relievers combined to allow just one run and four hits over the final four innings.

"We (the bullpen) haven't gotten the job done the previous few games," Tam said. "It might have been the lift we needed. We finally got the job done."
