SEATTLE (Ticker) -- It was a long time between victories for Gil Meche.

Meche notched his first win in nearly three years and Jeff Cirillo led a strong performance by the bottom of the lineup in the Seattle Mariners' 13-4 rout of the Texas Rangers.

Meche, who once was a top prospect for the Mariners, is back in the major leagues after a two-year absence. He missed the 2001 season after having arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff and spent 2002 in the minors.

"It's pretty amazing for me," Meche said. "Once you have surgery, you never know what's going to happen. I'm real thankful for where I'm at right now."

The 24-year-old righthander lost his return to majors on April 5 but bounced back in his second straight start against the Rangers. He gave up three runs and five hits in 5 2/3 innings en route to his first win since June 23, 2000.

"It's nice to be back here pitching," said Meche, who struck out six and walked four. "I feel healthy. I'm definitely satisfied with getting my first win in a long time."

Meche (1-1) allowed a two-run homer to Alex Rodriguez in the first inning, but the Mariners responded with six runs in the bottom half, highlighted by Mark McLemore's two-run single.

Cirillo, who had just one hit in 28 at-bats this season, matched a career high with four hits as the bottom four batters in Seattle's lineup combined to go 11-for-18 with seven RBI and six runs scored.

"It was a good night for myself," Cirillo said. "I got a huge monkey off my back and hopefully I can go from here. I trust the work I put in is going to pay off."

"They did a great job," Seattle first baseman John Olerud said. "They really swung the bats well and got a bunch runs for us. You like to have good production throughout the lineup."

Texas starter Ryan Drese (0-1) was tagged for six runs - five earned - and four hits and walked three while retiring just one batter.

"Ryan never really got settled in," Rangers manager Buck Showalter said. "In a situation like that, you hope you can get out of there with a couple of runs, but he never got comfortable."

Drese was less diplomatic in describing his performance.

"I (stunk)," he said. "I was rushing my pitches. I might have been a little anxious. You lose your location, you lose your balance, you lose your leverage. It affects all your pitches."

Drese opened the game with consecutive walks to Ichiro Suzuki and Randy Winn before rookie Hank Blalock made an error on Brent Boone's grounder to loaded the bases.

Suzuki scored when Olerud was hit by a pitch and McLemore singled with one out to plate Winn and Boone for a 3-2 lead.

Carlos Guillen singled to load the bases again and Olerud scored when Cirillo snapped on 0-for-16 skid with an infield single. Ben Davis lined a double down the right field line to plate McLemore and Guillen.

Drese walked Suzuki for the second time in the inning before giving way to Reynaldo Garcia, who escaped the jam.

Suzuki padded the lead with a two-run homer off Garcia in the third. Boone added his first homer of the season in the seventh, a solo shot that made it 12-4.

Doug Glanville hit a leadoff homer in the fifth and Blalock had an RBI single in the seventh for Texas.
