SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Jamie Moyer tries for his career-high 21st victory on Sunday as the Seattle Mariners play their meaningless season finale against the playoff-bound Oakland Athletics at Safeco Field.

Moyer is one of just five 20-game winners in the major leagues, including four in the American League. He has 20 victories this season - matching the career high he set with the Mariners in 2001.

The 40-year-old lefthander, who is a contender for the AL Cy Young, has won his last three starts, allowing four runs - three earned - and 18 hits in 24 innings.

Moyer (20-7, 3.27 ERA) defeated the Anaheim Angels in his last start on Monday, when he yielded just one unearned run and six hits in his first complete game of the season.

Moyer is 1-1 in two starts against Oakland this season. He is 15-10 with a 4.03 ERA in 35 lifetime appearances against the Athletics, including 31 starts.

Oakland hands the ball to Ted Lilly, who is just 1-4 with a 5.79 ERA in 10 career appearances - eight starts - against Seattle. He is 1-1 with a 4.41 ERA in three outings against the Mariners in 2003.

Lilly (12-9, 4.18) posted his first career win over Seattle in his last start on Sunday, when he gave up three hits while striking out seven in six innings.

The 27-year-old lefthander has won a career-high six straight starts and has posted a 1.23 ERA during that span. He has not lost since July 30.

Lilly has not yielded a run in his last three starts, tossing 19 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings since allowing a homer to Julio Lugo of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the third inning of his start at Tropicana Field on September 5.

Seattle has won the first two games of the series after posting a 7-4 victory over Oakland on Saturday.

Ichiro Suzuki hit a go-ahead single and Rey Sanchez drove in two runs with a double for the Mariners, who have won four of their last five games against the Athletics.

Seattle's Randy Winn extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

Terrence Long drove in a pair of runs and Eric Chavez belted his 29th homer of the season for the A's, who have lost consecutive games after winning 12 of 15.
