Recap | Boxscore

SAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- The San Francisco Giants still have slim hopes of gaining home-field advantage throughout the National League playoffs when they conclude the regular season on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

San Francisco opted not to play a makeup game at the New York Mets on Monday, damaging its chances of starting a possible League Championship Series at home against the Atlanta Braves. In order for the Giants to gain home field, they must win and hope that the Braves drop their finale at Philadelphia.

The Giants are 56-24, the best home record in baseball. San Francisco can notch its eight 100-win season and first since going 103-59 in 1993. The Giants have won 100 games twice since moving to San Francisco.

Los Angeles can notch its 86th victory for the fourth straight season. The Dodgers are 263-222 in three seasons under manager Jim Tracy.

San Francisco is 12-6 this season against Los Angeles, including a 7-2 mark at home.

Kevin Correia (2-1, 3.48 ERA) makes his seventh major league start for San Francisco. Correia made his last start last Sunday against Los Angeles and allowed five runs and six hits in four innings and did not receive a decision in a 7-5 setback. He was tagged for four homers.

The 23-year-old righthander is 1-0 with a 2.30 ERA at home. Correia has issued eight walks in his last 11 2/3 innings.

Resurgent Wilson Alvarez (6-1, 1.94) gets the baseball for Los Angeles. Alvarez has won his last seven decisions and is 4-0 with a microscopic 0.77 ERA in his last five outings.

The veteran southpaw is making his first start this year against the Giants. Alvarez tossed a pair of scoreless innings here in a 6-0 victory on June 25 in his first career appearance against San Francisco.
