Recap | Boxscore

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- After battling through an intense pennant race, the Chicago Cubs have a chance to rest their regulars on Sunday afternoon when they play their regular-season finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Chicago clinched its first National League Central Division title by sweeping a doubleheader from Pittsburgh on Saturday. The Cubs lead the Houston Astros by two games entering the final day of the season.

The Cubs will face NL East Division champion Atlanta in the first round in a series that starts on Tuesday. Chicago was swept by the Braves in its last playoff appearance in 1998.

Sammy Sosa and Moises Alou each homered in Chicago's 7-2 victory in Saturday's second game. Matt Clement pitched 7 2/3 effective innings for his 14th victory.

Sosa, Alou, and former Pirates Kenny Lofton and Aramis Ramirez are not expected to start for Chicago. Manager Dusty Baker indicated that he will get a lot of his bench players into this game.

Kerry Wood was Sunday's slated starter for the Cubs, but will be held back for the postseason. Baker said that he will use a number of pitchers, depending on who needs the work.

Chicago rookie Sergio Mitre (0-1, 15.43 ERA) is expected to make his second career start. The 22-year-old righthander's first start came on July 22 at Atlanta when he was tagged for eight runs and 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings.

Pittsburgh has lost five of its last six games. The Pirates are 3-5 at Wrigley Field this year.

Kip Wells (9-9, 3.29) makes his final start of the season for Pittsburgh. Wells is 4-2 with a 1.29 ERA in his last six starts.

The 26-year-old righthander is 0-0 with a 2.08 ERA in a pair of starts against Chicago this year. Wells is 4-6 with a 4.23 ERA in 17 starts on the road.
