Minnesota Twins at Detroit Tigers 7:05 pm Recap | Boxscore DETROIT (Ticker) -- Highly touted prospect Jeremy Bonderman makes his major league debut for the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday in the middle game of a three-game set against the Minnesota Twins at Comerica Park. Bonderman (NR) is among the best pitching prospects in baseball and his arrival in the majors has been awaited since he became the first player to be drafted following his junior year of high school. The 20-year-old righthander was acquired by the Tigers on July 6, 2002 in the three-team trade that sent Jeff Weaver to the New York Yankees. Last season, he was 9-9 with a 3.79 ERA in 27 starts in the minors and struck out 170 batters in 156 2/3 innings. The Twins counter with veteran Joe Mays (NR), who went 4-8 with a 5.38 ERA in 17 starts during an injury-plagued 2002 season. Mays spent most of last season on the disabled list due to problems with his right elbow. He bounced back to pitch well in the playoffs, but underwent surgery on his elbow to remove loose particles on November 2. The 28-year-old righthander is 9-3 with a 2.24 ERA - his lowest against any AL team - in 15 career appearances against Detroit, including 14 starts. He is 4-2 with a 1.92 ERA in seven career starts at Comerica Park. The Twins began defense of the American League Central Division title with a 3-1 victory over the Tigers in the season opener for both teams on Monday. Brad Radke gave up a run and three hits in 6 2/3 innings and Dustan Mohr and A.J. Pierzynski homered as Minnesota spoiled the debut of Detroit manager Alan Trammell.
